Deadly Mistake Number 1 - Poor or No planning!
The single biggest mistake many businesses make is in not planning their move properly.
An office move usually takes many months to go through and the planning before hand can take just as long!
Never expect miracles, never expect things to run smoothly, NEVER expect the planning to take care of itself!
The larger your business the longer the process will take, you have more things to move (i.e. staff and equipment). Unfortunately there is no way that I can tell you exactly how long the whole process will take, it can take from a few months for the smallest of businesses to many more months for a huge corporate company or businesses with multiple sites.
Some of the things you will need to think about are in our checklist, but will include such items as:
- Find the new premises
- Negotiate and sign contract
- Determine the move-in date
- Prepare the floor plans
- Hire any general Contractors
- Hire a Project Manager
- Select your internal move team
- Choose department coordinators
- Discuss the changes with your telecoms supplier, electricity supplier etc
- Order telephone service and data-lines
- Plan your security
- Plan, compose and send letters to customers and vendors/suppliers
- Order new stationery
- Order new furniture
- Hire the furniture mover
So the trick is to follow our checklist as start the planning process as early as possible.
